Job Description

Harbor Child Care is a private, not-for-profit agency dedicated to the promotion of higher standards in child care and early education for children, parents, child care providers and the community. A pioneer in the early childhood education field, the Harbor Child Care provides services and cares for over 500 hundred children ranging in age from three months to twelve years across its six centers in Nassau County, Long Island.

 

Job Summary: Reporting to the Center Director, the Assistant Director supports the daily operations of the center. He/she will manage the business functions of the Center and will assume a wide range of tasks to ensure that the Center provides an educational, caring and safe environment for the children and parents.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Assist Center Director with day-to-day operation of the Center.

Maintain a high-quality program according to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and Harbor Child Care.

Establish professional, positive relationships with parents, children, colleagues and the community.

Manage business functions of the Center including tuition billing, receivables and payroll.

Ensure that the program promotes the development of each child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in a nurturing, caring environment.

Assume the responsibility of the Center Director in his/her absence.

Track and maintain all required record keeping and documentation related to the Center and Children.

Ensure safety and supervision of children at all times by meeting the physical demands of the position.

Substitutes in the classrooms as needed.

Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience: In order to be considered for this position, you must meet all state licensing requirements, including:

• 2 -3 years of child care experience or related field.

• Previous day care management experience preferred.

• Associates degree or BA in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel required; knowledge of DSS and ProCare a plus.

• Willingness to attain mandated Director requirements
