Job Description

PURPOSE: To work collaboratively with other First Discoveries Christian Preschool staff in the care and education of children 2 - 7 years old and is under the direct supervision of the Preschool Director and Administrator.
GENERAL INFORMATION: A new employee will be required to pass a child care licensing background check.
Duties & Responsibilities: Assist with the planning and implementation of the preschool program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of First Discoveries Christian Preschool. Integrate the philosophy and goals of the program in relation to the developmental stages and cultural diversity of the children enrolled. Promote and supervise the healthy, emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of each child. Plan and prepare learning centers and open-ended activities on a daily basis. Develop warm, comfortable communication with children. Conduct and maintain records of assessments and developmental profiles and utilize in planning and conducting daily activities. Establish and maintain an environment that is developmentally appropriate and challenging for each child enrolled. Ensure the health and safety of children enrolled in the program. Provide any necessary first aid for children and maintain all emergency procedures. Facilitate ongoing communication and positive interpersonal relations with parents of children enrolled in the program. Assist with planning and conducting parent orientation meetings each semester. Conduct parent conferences each semester with parents of children in own group. Respond to parent concerns, provide any necessary information, help parents find answers, and make necessary referrals. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the families enrolled in First Discoveries Christian Preschool. Assist in planning and implementing occasional parent education activities based on parent’s stated interest and needs. Cultivating rapport and teamwork among staff. Attend training, conferences and courses to facilitate personal professional growth as well as Bible Classes for spiritual growth.

Job Requirements

Clear background check, able to legally work in the United States.

Good knowledge of: Must have 12 Units in Child Development (Core units) and Student Teaching Practicum at a local college or at a licensed preschool. Must possess current Pediatric First Aid and CPR permits. Must be able to supervise singly without the assistance of other staff, both indoors and on the playground; must have experience directing, supervising, and evaluating open-ended activities with at least 12 students.

Must have experience implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum; must possess effective writing and verbal communication skills including the ability to facilitate group discussions, problem-solving, and group decision making.

Physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing approximately 35 pounds and stand for approximately five hours at a time.

Desirable to have 2 years experience teaching in an early childhood classroom with children 2.5-6 years.

Desired to have completed or be enrolled in a Foundations Class at a Christian Church or have experience teaching Christian biblical concepts to young children.
