Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The School Age Group Leader II assists the Site Supervisor in the planning, organization and implementation of a quality children’s program for the YMCA and directly supervises children between the ages of 5-10 years in accordance with the Mission Statement of the Channel Islands YMCA.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent must be at least 18 years of age, with a high school degree or GED. This person must possess a minimum of 12 units in Child Development, Recreation, Elementary Education, or related field accepted by licensing, as well as one year of qualified experience working with children.  The incumbent must be in good health, verified by written results of a recent health screening within seven days of employment, as well as written results of a negative T.B. test less than 1 year old.  This person must be a sensitive, mature individual, able to relate well with both children and adults, with a sincere interest and ability to work with school-age children.  This individual must have the visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.   Current First Aid & CPR Certification for working with children are also required, as well as criminal clearance regulations as provided under Title XXII.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:

  • Planning, supervising, and implementation of a quality child care program in accordance with the policies and philosophies of the Channel Islands YMCA.
  • Maintain proper control using constructive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs.
  • Supervises up to 14 children, enforcing rules, which will provide a fun, safe environment for all.
  • Maintains general cleanliness and appearance of the classroom.
  • Attends all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain a professional attitude with parents, staff, school personnel and children at all times.
  • Continue professional growth through attendance of classes, education meetings, conferences, and workshops deemed necessary by a supervisor.
  • Completes any other task as assigned by the Program Director that falls within the program.
  • Actively participates and supports parent involvement activities.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Actively build relationships and connections with and among members by using members’ names, engaging members in conversation while actively listening and checking on members’ progress. Be aware of your regular members and welcome them back if they have been away.  If a regular member stops coming without explanation notify your supervisor to discuss the best way to follow up with the member. Help facilitate community building by introducing members to other staff and, when appropriate, to other members.
