Teacher Assistant - Keith Wold Johnson Day Care Center Edison, NJ

Full Time/Days: Center Opener/10-hour shift-4 days/week

Center Operating Hours: M-F; 6:15 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with the day to day operations of the classroom and with the instruction of students.  Teacher Assistant must assist the teacher with a wide variety of tasks relating to the teaching-learning process for students in addition to providing nurturing care and attending to student’s physical needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with carrying out duties in accordance to specific program policies, guidelines, and curriculum standards.

Solve problems through expertise judgment aligned with early childhood best practices and licensing regulations.

Work is generally performed under the supervision of the classroom teacher, assistant director and/or director/principal; assume responsibility for the classroom in the absence of the teacher.

Currently, this assistant will be assigned to the Infant 1 classroom and may float as needed to maintain proper ratios throughout the program. All classroom assignments are subject to change in accordance with program needs. Must be able to work effectively with all age groups.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Must be highly reliable and punctual with good attendance.

Two years experience working with children in a child care center setting and experience with Infants preferred.

Child Development Associate (CDA) certification CDA/CDA equivalent or higher is highly preferred for Infant/Toddler program.

Must have Pediatric First Aid/CPR AED certifications and active PINJ registry within 30 days of hire.

Must be able to lift 40 – 50 pounds.

Excellent communication skills.
