Position:                                Maintenance Worker-

Grade/Salary:                       (2) $10.00-$16.00 hourly rate /

                                               12-month position / 40 hours

Location:                               Marieb / ELC main campus

Reports to:                           VP of Operations

 

Summary:  The Maintenance Worker position is responsible for maintenance duties both internal and external at specific facilities as assigned.  The ability to comply with state and local health and safety regulations, Head Start and Early Head Start program performance standards and Children First program objectives are essential.  The employee works under the direction of the Operations Department and will report to an assigned supervisor.  Work is reviewed through observations, coaching and feedback and annual evaluations with supervisor.

 

Education and Equivalent Experience

*Apprenticeship or completion of technical program in HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, or electrical desired.

*High school or GED required

*Three years progressively responsible experience in janitorial and/or maintenance, desired.

*21 years of age required licensure and regulations.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

*Perform maintenance/custodial services as assigned in compliance with state and local health and safety regulations, Head Start/Early Head Start performance standards, licensing standards, and Children First program objectives.

*Perform routine landscaping and maintenance services.

*Maintain outdoor areas by mowing, raking, pruning, trimming, digging, weeding, and watering to assure that areas are well kept and visually appealing, free from hazards, and meet codes and standards.

*Make deliveries between sites as requested by supervisor.

*Assist with custodial/maintenance related administration and documentation.

 

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

*Ability to pass driver / auto insurance screening in order to drive agency vehicles.

*Proper methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in modern grounds keeping, landscaping, custodial and maintenance work, including plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and electrical systems.

*Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.

*Requirements of maintaining buildings and grounds in clean and safe condition.

*Appropriate safety precautions and procedures; proper lifting techniques

*Perform simple mathematical calculations.

*Understand and follow directions for janitorial and maintenance procedures.

*Set and maintain professional boundaries with families.

*Speak, read and write English; ability to communicate in Spanish, a plus

*Work cooperatively with parents and staff.

*Solve problems and make decisions.

*Manage time, stress and constantly changing situations.

*Use a computer (word processing, data entry, spreadsheet, internet and e-mail use), desired.

*Lifts and carries up to 75 lbs; walk, stand, bend, stoop, for extended periods of time.

*Reaches with hands and arms, stretches, crouches, and talks/hears to exchange information.

*Respond both physically and mentally to emergency or crisis situations.
