Job Summary

The Raymond G. Perelman Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics (CCMT) is dedicated to the understanding, development, and application of gene and related cell and nucleic acid therapies and the promotion of professional and public education in the field. The CCMT fosters a multidisciplinary approach among researchers and scientists working to discover new gene and cell therapies in search of cures for debilitating and life threatening disorders. The Aquizu Lopez Laboratory is housed within the CCMT, occupying 2000 sq. ft. in the Colket Translational Research Building and offers a wonderful opportunity to work in a collaborative, inspiring and fun environment, while learning about one of the most fascinating biological structures in nature: our brain.

Research in the Aquizu Lopez lab aims to uncover why some neural cells are vulnerable to imbalances that occur in neurological disorders, and why others are resistant, with the ultimate goal to better understand and treat neurological disorders. Approaches utilized include murine and human pluripotent stem cell models, embryonic mouse in utero electroporation and neural engraftments, high throughput imaging, next generation proteomics and genetic platforms, as well as ribosome profiling and behavioral studies.

The successful applicant will work on establishing cellular models of neurological diseases. This involves working with human pluripotent stem cells, neural differentiation and generation of brain organoids all of which require daily and gentle care. The Research Assistant III will work closely with Dr. Aquizu Lopez and other members of the lab and will be an integral and essential part of the lab, actively involved with both organizational and scientific duties in the lab.

Previous experience in pluripotent stem cell culture is required. Candidates with experience with neural differentiation and brain organoids would be preferred. Self-motivation, passion for science, and keen interest in learning new techniques is a must!
