Job Description

The Merit School is seeking experienced AM/PM Supervisors for our new child care center in Arlington, VA.

Our supervisors and teachers support growth and development through singing, reading, playing, and sharing quiet moments throughout the day. Our supervisors are responsible for opening and closing of the center. This requires competency with customer service; managing staff transitions; ensuring classroom and building requirements are met each evening; interacting in a professional manner with children, parents and co-workers. Clear and concise communication is imperative. There also may be required driving of a school van to drop-off and pick up from field trips.

As Supervisor you will be expected to:

• Be the authorized agent of the Director in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director.

• Have regular attendance.

• Open and/or close the school reliably each day regardless of weather, etc.

• Arrive at the school prior to the first child arriving for the day and/or the last child leaving.

• Be available at the Front Desk or stand in the foyer to greet families, and assist as needed with classrooms, parent questions/concerns, drop off issues, etc. in a courteous and professional manner.

• Walk the building regularly to maintain ratio and ensure expectations, policies, and regulations are in practice.

• Follow and maintain the schedule created by the Director.

• Call in substitutes and make appropriate adjustments to the schedule as needed to cover staff call-outs, tardies, etc.

• If a classroom is over ratio, assist in that classroom.

• Utilize the Family Handbook guidelines, Minnieland Personnel Policies, and Licensing Standards when making decisions on how to handle various situations that may arise after Management leaves.

• Demonstrate and model policies, procedures, and “best practice” to coworkers and families at all times, to include while working regular classroom hours.

• Perform light office work.

• Be supportive of school management in actions and words to promote a positive school atmosphere.

Education and/or Experience – (Must have one of the following):

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Elementary Education, or a related field (with a minimum of 30 credits in ECE – for Lead Teacher; or

• Associates degree or higher in ECE, Elementary Education or a related field (with a minimum of 30 credits in ECE); or

• Current CDA; or

• Current and active enrollment in an accredited Associates or Bachelor’s degree program; or

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with minimum 1 year teaching experience at a child care facility.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

• A desire to learn and grow with the company

• Six months (6) of group care experience in a licensed facility

• Must be at least 21 years of age

• Knowledge of Virginia Licensing Standards preferred

• Medication Administration Training (MAT) certification

• First Aid and CPR certification

• Basic working knowledge of computers and a Windows Operating System

• Working knowledge and demonstration of Developmentally Appropriate Practice, best practices in early childhood education, and Minnieland Program expectations.
