We are looking for a sharp, enthusiastic, professional  to become part of the energy and lead our Patient Safety team where you will engage in our efforts to improve patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency. 

    1.  Manages a Patient Safety Program for the medical center consistent with the facilities strategic plan.                                
    2.  Coordinates all aspects of patient safety, to include planning, implementation of patient safety programs and monitoring to ensure effectiveness                                
    3.  Advises immediate supervisor of any and all sensitive information involving patient safety problems.                                
    4. Consults patient safety literature and resources including but not limited to ECRI Top 10 Technology Risks, AHRQ, Quest and other best practices to plan and make recommendations for patient safety initiatives.                                
    5.  Prepares reports reflecting summary patient safety activities, including work plans and monitoring to ensure effectiveness                                
    6.  Stays up to date on Patient Safety current literature participating in Webinars and attending available education programs as needed                                
    7. Participates on appropriate hospital committees to ensure collaborative efforts in monitoring and evaluation of identified Patient Safety problems and assists in problem resolution.                                
    8. Maintains patient safety data relating to the hospital's performance.                                
    9. Participates in developing a hospital-wide Patient Safety Plan consistent with the facilities strategic plan, national quality initiatives and regulatory compliance.                                
    10. Maintains confidentiality of all patient safety, risk management, quality management and other sensitive materials.                                
    11. Stays up to date on TJC, National Quality Initiatives and other regulatory agency standards.                                
    12. Administers and manages teams, committees and other processes to comply with regulatory standards.                                
    13. Ensures a plan is in place to monitor on-going compliance with regulatory standards. Reports findings as required at appropriate committees.                                
    14.  Ensures that the annual survey for 'The Culture of Patient Safety' is administered annually                                
    15.  Tracks participation in the survey and provides reminders as needed to increase participation                                
    16. Analyzes the results of the survey and works with clinical departments to work on any area of needed improvement                                
    17. Conducts all required RCA's to meet JC and other regulatory requirements                                
    18. Ensures written documentation of the RCA is complete and thorough.  Writes an action plan together with key department managers                                
    19. Ensures action plans from RCA's are complete and deadlines are met                                
    20. Ensures followup monitoring related to the RCA is conducted, meets regulatory requirements related to volume, and is completed on time                                
    21. Analyzes annually all RCA's for any trends and makes recommendations for improvement                                
    22. Conducts one FMEA annually.  Makes recommendations for what the topic should be and gains consensus and approval from the Patient Safety Committee                                
QUEST/HEN INITIATIVES/ LEAPFROG                                    
    23.  Coordinates Patient Safety aspects of the Quest Programs. Prepares reports frequently for review and presentation to appropriate committees and individuals for review and action.                                
    24.  Coordinates teams to review data from Quest so analysis of data and action plans to improve performance can occur.                                
    25.  Maintains agendas, sign-in sheets and records of action plans from each of the teams.                                
    26. Reviews workplans for each team lead on an as needed basis to ensure progress                                
    27. Helps to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and guidelines.                                
    28. Demonstrates skill in planning, organizing, and implementation of work assignments or projects.                                
    29. Works with the PMO and others to meet the requirements of Leap Frog                                
PATIENT SAFETY COMMITTEE                                    
    30. Prepares reports for presentation to the Patient Safety Committee regarding Patient Safety Initiatives.                                
    31. Helps to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and guidelines.                                
    32. Conducts special projects at the direction of immediate supervisor.                                
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE                                    
    33. Assists in assuring the hospital's compliance with all federal, state and local regulations regarding patient safety.                                
    34. Assists in keeping medical staff, administration and department managers updated on new developments regarding patient safety.                                
    35. Accompanies, as needed, state and federal surveyors during scheduled and unannounced regulatory surveys.                                
    36. Provides reports as requested to state and/or federal regulatory entities.                                
PATIENT SAFETY EDUCATION                                    
    37. Ensures education to all new employees upon employment for Patient Safety.                                
    38. Plans, coordinates and provides for inservice education related to Patient Safety as needed for all hospital personnel in accordance with identified needs and State guidelines.

Job Requirements

RN State of Florida required
Certified in Patient Safety preferred, but not required
Four year college degree in Nursing or other healthcare field required
At least four years experience in patient safety, risk management or performance improvement

Detail oriented; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Excellent interpersonal skills; Strong managerial skills including budget preparation and personnel management; Comfortable and skilled at working with physicians, health care providers and other stakeholders in the organization; Capable of gaining immediate credibility with individuals through work experience, presentation, communication skills, empathy and compassion; Analytical skills including a working knowledge of basic statistics and statistical analysis methodologies; Knowledge of PC based computer software, i.e. Word, Excel, Access and/or similar systems preferred; Ability to work independently and interdependently; Broad knowledge and familiarity with healthcare-related regulatory and accreditation requirements.
