Job Description

Responsibilities

·      Plans and implements enriched programs in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy;

·      Leads children in activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, demonstrating the use of simple musical instruments, preparing craft materials and demonstrating their
use and providing opportunities for creative expression;

·      Takes a leadership role in the classroom and provides excellent supervision and interaction with children at all times including in all classroom, sleep room, outside and
playground activities;

·      Observes children in their surroundings and assesses individual and group needs;

·      Promotes open communication and works cooperatively and effectively as a team member and communicates and contributes information on a continuous basis;

·      Meets emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child in the classroom;

·      Follows all center policies as outlined in the Staff Handbook including Behavior Management, Serious Occurrence, Technology Use, Fire Drills, Workplace Harassment and Violence and Health and Safety practices;

·      Prepares and maintains the indoor and outdoor play areas for children’s use, including checking toys and equipment to ensure safe functioning and performing various
housekeeping and sanitizing duties as required;

·      Participates in lunch, diapering, bathroom and toilet training duties and promotes healthy and independent practices and ensures any special dietary requirements are met;

·               Maintains open, positive, friendly and cooperative relationships with each child’s family;

·      Accurately performs all administrative tasks including entries for the classroom log book, center communication log book and required emergency and incident reporting in a timely manner;

·      Attends monthly staff meetings as well as staff development workshops;

·      Adheres to dress code; If designated, takes calls and messages in a polite, helpful manner;

·      Participates in team/room meetings and assists in another room as needed;

·      Complete required training (15 hours/year) in a timely manner and attend in-services as needed;

Performs other related duties as assigned and maintains confidentiality;
 

Job Requirements

·      Successful candidate must be at least 19 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent, as well as the following:

·      Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six; or

·      One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six; or

·      Completion of credentialing programs approved by the Department, Credentialing program with a minimum of 640 clock hours of documented experience within the past five years working with children ages zero to six in a public or private school operated nursery school, kindergarten or licensed day care center. Renewal required every five years.

Must have a current medical with a proof of required immunizations as well as DCFS required trainings (15 hours/year) and forms with 3 reference letters.

·      Must be a member of Gateways to Opportunity

·      Infant/Child C.P.R. and First Aid updated yearly

·      The incumbent must be capable of lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds
