Strengths include a talent for inspiring and drawing out the creativity in each child, to intuit each child’s needs and to adapt teaching methods accordingly with kindness, imagination and humor.
Music program includes:
Experiencing music through movement by engaging the children in choreographed and free dances
Facilitating development of large motor skills and muscle groups with locomotor activities such as running, jumping, hopping, galloping, marching
Utilizing fingerplays to develop small muscles and motor skills
Vocal development
Developing listening skills leading to ear training
Working with musical concepts such as fast/slow, high/low, loud/quiet
Introducing instrument families and musical instruments of different periods
Playing rhythm instruments as an ensemble
Exposing the children to the music and dances of different cultures
Working towards and staging an end of year production where the children are able to show off their musical skills
Art program includes:
Introducing different styles of art, such as impressionism, abstract, realism and the artists who used them
Using visual aids such as prints of paintings by a variety of artists
Playing a “guess the artist” game which develops the ability to recognize and become familiar with an artist’s style
Painting and drawing in various styles throughout the school year
Discussing, in an age appropriate way, the uses of light and shadow and linear perspective
Conducting experiments with color blending
Utilizing manipulatives like play-doh, cutting with scissors and drawing with various media such as pencils, crayons and markers to develop small motor skills and muscle groups
Singer and Instrumentalist 1998 until Present
I am a self-employed musician who plays traditional and early music of the British Isles and Italy. I am a vocalist and also play dulcimer, recorder, pennywhistle and harp. I have played in Medieval and Renaissance Festivals, including ten years with the New York Renaissance Faire, as well as Charity events and benefits. My previous bands were A Couple Of Note and The Broad Street Troubadours, with whom I've recorded two CDs. I am now soloing as "Una Cantante" and have played at the Medieval Festival at Fort Tryon Park in New York.
