As an Elementary Education Teacher, teaching and learning is my life. The passion and desire to want to teach began from childhood. The desire was created from experiences with past and present teachers, some who were family members. It has always been my objective to place myself in a position in which giving and receiving was first place. Learning is a part of teaching. The best way to describe this would be to explain a fact. Like a root is to a tree. Without the root, the tree has no life. So, with that in mind teaching has become the root of my life style. It fits into my idea of finding meaning and fulfillment. As an Elementary Education School teacher experiences in the surrounding school systems has caused me to remain in the field of education. The District of Columbia Public School system is where my first teaching experiences were created. Other school systems would include P.G. County Public Schools and Catholic Schools.
Agencies such as Huntington Learning Center and Non-Public Educational Services Inc. provided the opportunity to work with students for additional support outside of the classroom. With ten (10&more) years of teaching experience (including substitute teaching), a B.A. degree in elementary education, and forty-two hours of teacher training, the classroom setting has become my stage. The joy comes from transferring knowledge to others.
Concerning those grades I have taught would include fifth grade, six grade science and first grade as a classroom teacher. P.G. County Public Schools provided the first opportunity for me to substitute teach while license to teach with my Virginia License (#02-535625). Instruction was provided for students Kindergarten thru eighth grade. The opportunities to substitute teach while licensed to teach provided the experiences necessary for me to establish my career in education. I'm a teacher and I know it! It takes a variety of experiences to truly make such a statement. However, the joy comes when you can watch others grow and become mature individuals, seeing the smiles on their faces when they have comprehended a concept or skill. It takes one experience after another in order to see effectively how to administer learning concepts to others. Teachers and students are learning, learning, learning. It never ends. Teaching provides a community in which the truth is practice.
