I am an active participant of service hours in my school and my community. During the school year and the past few summers, I have volunteered at my local library, Katharine Drexel Branch, assisting children and running the children’s summer reading table. I have experience reading to children, constructing arts and crafts, and playing with the children. My volunteer service at the Free Library of Philadelphia landed me my current job there as an after school homework helper for children/adolescents. Our job duties are to assist the children with their homework/study needs, help them to create unique arts and crafts, read to them, and create educationally enriching programs/activities for the children. This is a 10 month program, from September-June. I also have experience as a summer camp counselor for two summers. This was a volunteer program where we played sports outside, constructed crafts, had story time and movie time with the children.
Working with children this year, I received my FBI check, Criminal Check, Child Abuse Clearances and Fingerprints. I am confident that my leadership skills I have gained from volunteering and working with children will prepare me to succeed as a summer camp counselor or a daycare provider.
